The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto vacuum and mop-emptying dock, however. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums that mop vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also gives access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
