Door Handle Replacement

Door handles seem like an insignificant thing but if you aren't happy with the style or design of them, or find them difficult to use and use, you should consider replacing them. Installing the new handle on your door is simple if you have patience.

It could be caused by wear and tear hinges that are too shallow, the wrong size latch, or damaged strike plate. If this is the situation then you should use a filing made of metal instead of a chisel, or hammer to adjust the strike plate.

Take off the Latch

The latch is a bent metal piece that slides into and out of a hole in the inside of your door. When you turn the handle, it pushes this latch forward and allows you to open the door. It also hooks into an opening in the door's frame so that the door remains closed. If your door is wobbling when you close it, replacing the latch could be all that is needed to fix the problem.

The screws that secure the door latch are difficult to locate however, you can use a screwdriver to make a small hole on the trim plate, and then pull the latch off. Check the backset of the current handle (the distance between the centre of the large hole on the front of the door and the edge) before installing the new handle. Check that the latch size of the new handle is equal to the measurement.

You'll require a new cylinder for your lock if replacing the latch and handle or if your current one is damaged.
