1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It is a little tricky to test because there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. When I crank the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not certain what to do, as i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or from a parts store.
