Evolution Korea

In the past, the Korean scientific community resisted working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. The silence is no longer an alternative.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their environment which can result in changes in genes, or even entire genomes. Over time these changes could lead to the emergence new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how people with advantageous traits survive and reproduce more than those with less advantageous traits. In time, this disparity in reproduction could lead to the emergence of completely new species.

The word "evolution" originates from the Latin word"evolution" which means unrolling or revealing, but the concept has had a variety of meanings as it has taken form in the sciences and other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to change into a new species. The term"transmutation" was coined by the Lamarck's disciple embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the view that existing species evolve into different species in an orderly and predictable manner.

Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living things develop characteristics to increase their chances of survival or 에볼루션 슬롯 producing offspring. Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution and special creation and call their view "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also referred to as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." The theory says that God creates original species and then allows them to evolve over time. Eventually the evolutionary changes create new species that are identical to the original species.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in one event known as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the first species were created simultaneously, and that they evolved gradually afterward. What is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of creationism most often, they think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their textbooks. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the bird, the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on removing excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims to have the support of around 4000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that paints an unhopeful worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of trainee biology teachers found that about half do not believe in the concept of evolution. The causes aren't clear however, they could be related to religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists in the country.

The KACR has achieved a lot through its lectures and seminars in the past. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences, with an evolutionary perspective that sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it continues to be taught to this day.

On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six foreign lecturers, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed a crowd of more than a thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering talks on creation science at major seminaries, too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the near future.
